Dell PowerVault 745N - Install Array Manager on Windows Server 2008
Hi, I am able to successfully install windows server 2008 on a dell powervault 745n but I cannot manage the raid array on the CERC 1.5/6 channel controller. Any suggestions on how I can manage the RAID array for this system on windows server 2008?
I also tried installing Array Manager but I get the following error when i launch the Array Manager Console: "Unable to insert Array Manager OCX. Please check to see whether the OCX is being registered correctly."
I do not have OMSA or any other conflicting software that is trying to manage the RAID controller other than the Array Manager. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Array Manger as well.
looking forward to any suggestions.
thanks!
-sul.

I don't think Array Manager was ever updated to support 2008. You have to use OpenManage Server Administrator. You can get it by downloading it from the downloads section on the Dell support site. If you cannot find it under the 745's downloads, try the downloads for a 2950 or so.

I tried this already but OMSA 6.1 does not install on PV745n. Is there a workaround? thanks!

This is the one from the 745n support page, note the entry under additional. Use the nas to download it and save it locally and run it from there.
* When installing on PowerVault 775N, 770N, and 745N Hardware RAID and External RAID systems, you must use the Custom install option and select the option to install Dell OpenManage Array Manager.

Just boot to the 2008 cd like you normally would. you will need the CERC 1.5/1.6 drivers to get the installation to see the HD's
If you have not created an array yet, you will need to boot to the raid controller first and do so.

this does not work, even run in compatibility mode 2008 will not let this version of open manage be installed.

I have done that but mine is in a constant boot loop. I have never been able to get into windows. I've seen sotrage server 2008 on pv745ns before but I am stuck as to how they got it to work.
