Failed disk replaced in MD3000 now reading "By-passed'

We had a failed disk in our MD3000.  We have replaced the disk with the same type that we have used many times before to replace other failed disk.  This time though it is reading "by-passed."  Along with this the recovery guru reports it is bypassed and the Service action (removal) allowed is no.  So I'm hesitant on doing much else without some guidance.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Does the replacement drive have the same Dell partnumber (DP/N) on it? If it doesn't have any Dell partnumber on it, then it will definitely not work in this unit, even if it's the same model as the Dell equivalent.

The MD3k-series only accepts Dell (re-)branded drives. These drives have firmware on them specifically developed for the raid controller(s) in the MD3k-series.

Edit/add: A non-certified drive could definitely yield a 'bypassed' state.

Thanks for the reply.  I inherited this system and looking at the disks summary both of my md3000s each have a combination of product IDs.  The two product ids are ST3300655SS and MBA3300RC.  Both types are running in combination on the MD3000s.  The new one is a MBA3300RC.  As you have said though this doesn't look like a Dell proprietary disk but I already have 6 running in this enclosure and my other one.

Any suggestions?

I would advise to make sure that the Firmware is up to date on the RAID Controllers and on the HDDs. Do you know if you are on a 1st or 2nd gen version for the Controllers? I do see that MBA3300RC is listed as a supported drive.

I don't know off the top of my head.  I have the support logs in front of me.  Is there a specific version that would help you identify what you are asking?

What is the current Firmware version? That will tell us if it is 1st or 2nd gen.

I want to apologize for the delay. Are you still having the issues? I see the FW you said you are currently at. If you are still having issue lets start by getting this updated to the latest version 07.35.39.64

I look forward to hearing back from you.
