HPT on MD34xx
High Performance Tiering - HPT, I see conflicting references to this premium feature in terms of which models it is supported on. This spec sheet seems to suggest it's available on all MD34xx and MD38xx models: https://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/PowerVault_MD3_Family_SS.pdf
BUT, there's no mention of it whatsoever in the MD34xx/MD38xx Administrator's guide. https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/pwv-md34xx38xx-ag_en-us.pdf
This guide mentions some premium features, but not HPT. Can anyone confirm whether HPT is a thing on the MD3400/3420 specifically? I'd be shocked if a manual didn't even mention a premium feature that was available.

We have a customer with an MD3420 array with a trial version of HPT enabled, but it still won't let them create an SSD cache. They have 2x 1.92TB SSDs, Dell-branded, but no luck. Also, where does one obtain an HPT license these days?

As a reseller we sold MD32x0 and MD34x0 with the HighPerformance Key in the past. Its not only used for SSD Cache but helps also to get better performance out of the controller when having a lot of disks or SSD only within the main unit. Per default the controllers are throttled.
MD3 is out of sale for ages... i have my doubt that Dell will sold your the HP key. Activating in the old days was trough a simple website. Dell send you a key on paper and you have to insert the key into the web site and returns a license file.

Joerg

Yeah, that was my fear. Still kind of shocked that Dell's own documentation for this specific model / family doesn't even mention it as a possible feature. At the end of the day it's just money they'll never see. Our customer changed their mind and went with HPE instead.
