HyperV2012R2 MPIO with MD3220i
Hi,
I am trying to setup MPIO with Hyper-V. Installed DSM host software on the hyperV host and rebooted. But when I go to the MPIO it only shows
MSFT2005....
Vendor 8Product...
There is no mention of MD32XX as many website seem to show. In the device manager, I can see Dell MD32xxi Multipath disk device.
I can add session and all "active" even though I know there can be no more than 4 active! Something is wrong. How can I test if MPIO is working without going to the datacenter and yanking cables?

If you have dedicated network interfaces for each of your paths to the MD3220i you can test MPIO by disabling the network adapter in the host OS (just right click the adapter in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections, then disable), then monitoring the connected state in the iSCSI connector for each of your iSCSI sessions. You should see standby paths change to active and active paths change to a connecting state as they attempt to retry.
Then when tested that connectivity remains constant, reenable the adapter. Wait a couple of minutes after reenabling for all the iSCSI sessions to come back up before disabling the next adapter and so on, otherwise (as is my experience) you may get to a situation where the system appears to hang briefly (whilst all sessions appear down and it tries to recover).
Dell install their own MPIO driver as part of the setup and it should require no configuration, the only configuration is via the iSCSI connector.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I did connect with Dell support and turned out that I was installing the MDSM software over the network, which will not install the driver. The installer has to be on the local computer. Just select the "host" option in the installer.
I am still looking for experiences with multiple MD's in the same network. If you have 2 MD's and a host with 8 NIC's, would you create 8 paths (4 active and 4 backup) which oversubscribes the host port or use 2 paths for each MD.
