Lesson learned Dell PowerVault MD3200
So I recently purchased an MD3200 off eBay with the intention of pairing it with an R320 to create a NAS.
First thing - it’s loud. Even at the lowest setting, the 4 fans on the power supplies are quite noisy. This is not going to work for me as the rack will be residing in my work space.
Second and larger problem - the 6 Hitachi 7.2k SAS drives that I have will not even seat into the backplane of the MD3200. I also learned that even if they had fit into the enclosure that the software would flag them for not being Dell branded drives.
Anyway, hope this will answer some questions for anyway with similar plans and keep others from making the same mistake.
PS.. MD3200 for sale if anyone is interested.
