MD1200 SES Problems
I am working with a Dell MD 1200 array and an ATTO FastStream 8550, and am experiencing SES issues. The disks will always come up correctly, but ~10% of the time the enclosure's SES device will not register properly.
3Gb SAS traces show that the array will do a few strange things:
1) No sent response after sending data from an Inquiry (non-EVPD) SCSI command. (0xFF Incomplete - Error)
2) No sent response after sending data from a Report LUNS SCSI command. (0xFF Incomplete - Error)
3) Array will respond to an Inquiry SCSI command properly, but then shortly after send another response frame.
4) Array will send a SSP Frame type 0x00 frame to hashed destination and source address 0x000000.
5) Array will send a task management frame of 0x01 Abort task.
I'm trying to determine if the MD1200 array is the cause of these issue. Has anyone experienced a similar problem with this array or another Dell array?
Thanks.
Matt

I haven't seen many people use Dell enclosures with anything other than Dell PERC controllers or LSI raid controllers.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with experience using a Dell MD DAS enclosure connected to a non-Dell (and non-LSI) controller.

Well, I've written a lot of SES code for dozens of enclosures, including some of the dell Enclosures. While i have found a few issues with some non-compliance with the ANSI spec in some Dell enclosures, they didn't affect this.
SES works on these enclosures. The problem isn't the enclosure, more likely whatever software you are using.
