MD3000i Degraded Physicl Disk Channel

So our MD3000i has this error on it. Lots of errors showing on RAID controller 0.  It's updated with all the latest firmware almost positive as nothing has been released in a year I believe.  I've collected a support bundle but since this is no longer supported by Dell we'd have to pay the $599 incident support I'd like to avoid.  The error says for me to call support with no recommendations other than that. Anyone have some tips to a solution

Hello grendels_Arm,

Ok so I reviewed the logs and all looks good as all drives are seen. So what you will need to do is to run the following through SMCLI to clear the errors and then see if the errors return again.

-c "clear allPhysicalDiskChannels stats;"

-c "set physicalDiskChannel [0] status=optimal;"

-c "set physicalDiskChannel [1] status=optimal;"

-c "set physicalDiskChannel [2] status=optimal;"

Now these commands just clear all the error reporting & doesn’t harm any of your data.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello grendels_Arm,

Did you replace any drives recently?  Also before you upgraded the firmware were there any errors on the MD3000i?  If you can grab a support bundle from the MD3000i I will send you a private message so that you can provide me the logs.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

File uploaded.  So frustrating trying to download the latest drive firmware from the Dell website. Multiple browsers and I get internal server error trying to download A19.  A18 and back works

Anyone one of the drives in the MD3000i is one version behind. Others I've confirmed are up to date.  The MD1000 drives are at ES64 and the latest are ES68. So they are a couple versions behind. It's drive update tonight.

OK I'll check out the latest firmware for the drives. So far no email and that address is correct in my profile.  Checked my junk email and nothing there.  Nevermind just got it.

We didn't replace any drives "recently".  However there is one drive in the MD3000i enclosure that is one firmware revision behind the other drives. I haven't updated as I have to shut down all VMs just to update this.  We also have an MD1000 attached to the MD3000i and this has the same size drives but different model numbers and they are all the same firmware.  It's been a little bit of time since I updated drive firmware. But these have been around for 5 years or so now so not sure there are many new revisions left.

I grabbed a support bundle right away yesterday.  PM me so I can send it to you. Should I proceed tonight with shutting down everything and updating all drives to the latest firmware? At minimum one drive needs to be updated.

Hello grendels_Arm,

Yes I would update the drives as I have seen that where drives are running on old firmware cause this error.  Also I sent you an email to your address that you had listed on your profile so you can just respond to that I can access the logs once you have uploaded them.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks after that the array shows as optimal. I'll still perform the drive firmware update tonight at 8pm EST. I'll post back if the error comes back.
