MD3000i not picking up DHCP
I have recently picked up a new (resealed box from Dell) MD3000i server. I connected the management interface on the first controller (dual controller) up to a dumb switch with a Cisco router (DHCP server) connected to it.
The MD3000i didn't request, nor was given an IP address from the router. So I configured my XP box with an IP address within the /24 that the MD3000 will resort to if it can't find a DHCP server (note that the XP machine was able to get an IP address from the server when configured to do so, so I am reasonably confident that the DHCP server is working correctly). I couldn't ping the MD3000 using it's fall back IP address, nor was the Management Software installed on the XP box able to find the machine.
Ok. So I am thinking that maybe the machine has been configured by Dell as part of a demonstration etc, and it's base configuration has been changed. So I pull the Ethernet cable out of the management port, plug it into the iSCSI port 0 on controller 0 and reboot the MD3000i. On the reboot, the port actually asks, and is given an IP address. Cool. But the management software on the XP box can't talk to it still.
1. Does it look like the configuration has been changed from what the MD3000i manual says?
2. How to I reset it back.
I am not a storage expert yet - but pretty keen to get the server going? Can anybody point me to a document or another posting (I did search first) which will help.
Kind Regards

Hi,
To solve this situation you need to get connected to the out-of-band-management ports.
Connect both management ports to a switch and try pinging:
192.168.128.101
192.168.128.102
if those have changed you can reset them by connecting to the serial interface at the back of each controller.
You won't be able to connect through the ISCSI Ports until you configured a Host using "Modular Disk Storage Manager" ( that seems impossible when connecting to Management is impossible )
Procedure to find out the management interface IPs:
Recover the IP Address of the MD3000i using the DB9 to PS/2 password reset cable by performing the following steps.
When you have the IP displayed then open up "Modular Disk Storage Manager" and insert the IP for manual discovery.
You should now be able to get connected
Hope this helps

Yep - did all of that, although had more luck with the port speed set to 115k. What I am not getting however is a prompt. What I see from the first controller is the sodMain complete. I click on a few times, but nothing is coming up.

forgot something...
use "NetCfgSet" to set an IP Address if there are zeroes in the address line

Yes, the controller is giving his commands there.
When you are connected you need to press
The Controller will ask you to set Boud Rate -> press
then you need to send a "Break" -> press + and within 5 seconds press
You now will see a login promt where you need to enter a password.
This password is not public and so you need to call your Dell Support to get it ( maybe they will prompt you to have a remote session to enter it as they do not want to share ).
When logged in then you can enter NetCfgShow
Hope I could help you

Thanks for all the help everyone. The final solution that can be achieved without contacting Dell for support (which was necessary in my case because the warranty purchase is still in the pipeline) is;
Us the DB9 to PS/2 password reset cable by performing the following steps.
