MD3000i RAID Controller battery replaced, twice, still reporting failed
The first go 'round the battery sat for 4-5 months before I had time to change it, but within a few hours MDSM started reporting that it failed. We assumed that it was because of the time it sat idle. This time I installed the new battery the day after it arrived and, about 10 hours later it had failed. I looked through the logs and it was reported that the battery was fully charged within a couple of hours, only to fail 8 hours later. The RAID Controllers are at the same firmware level, 7.35.39.64, which looks like the latest/last firmware version. Is it possible that we've been sent two defective batteries? Any other ideas? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

In the end, shutting down the array, re-seating the battery, then restarting, appears to have resolved the issue. It's been approximately 18 hours and no further errors.

Hello, Mike Sr.
I'm curious to know what error is presented in the Major Event Log when the battery is reported failed. There are a couple of things we can try here (if you haven't already). I would recommend restarting the Raid Controller to generate a Learn Cycle. This can be done as often as once a week, though I wouldn't recommend doing it that often, as you probably don't want wear the battery down. Let's see how long the battery lasts before reporting failed again.
We could have a couple of issues here. Either a failed battery, or a Raid Controller not charging the battery properly.
I'll send you an email, and if you could obtain a support bundle from the array, that would be great. I'll take a look at the MEL, and get a better picture of what's going on.
Have a great rest of the day!
