MD3200 - Critical Error - Expansion Enclosure component failed or removed

Hi,

I have an error reported by MDSM. I rarely reboot this device but when I do this error gets reported within 24 hours, gets immediately cleared and doesn't return. Until now. Rebooted on Monday and this error has appeared and dissapeared three times now (once per 24 hours although the timing is not uniform). Here's the log dump for the last appearance:

Date/Time: 20/03/14 00:05:20

Sequence number: 7838
Event type: 280D
Event category: Internal
Priority: Critical
Event needs attention: true
Event send alert: true
Event visibility: true
Description: Expansion enclosure component failed or removed
Event specific codes: 0/0/0
Component type: Enclosure Component (EMM, GBIC/SFP, Power Supply, or Fan)
Component location: Enclosure 1, Slot 2
Logged by: RAID Controller Module in slot 0

This got cleared within seconds with no noticeable effect on the storage, which was under minimal load.

Should I be worried?

Thanks

Stuart

Hello Stuart,

The error that you are getting is in reference to an error with the expansion enclosure that is connected to your MD3200.  The error is in the first MD1200 that is connected to your MD3200.  I would check all your connections on the MD1200 & make sure that all are tight & secure.  If you are still getting the error after reseating all connections then I would pull a support bundle and I can review it for you.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have just pushed in all the connectors from the MD3200 to the first MD1200 (and then from that to the second MD1200 just for good measure). They were all already 'passed the click' and seemed secure but lets see if this sorts it out. I'll post an update in a couple of days unless the error returns before then.

The MD3200 is connected to my host via a HBA card . . . I guess that's too early in the communications channel to be causing this problem?

Incidentally how do I 'pull a support bundle' on a live system?

Thanks again for your help.

Hello Stuart,

To pull a support bundle you need to first log into MDSM (Modular Disk Storage Manger) and then click on the MD3200.  Once it brings up the MD then you will want to go to the Array management window & then go to the support tab & then select gather support information which will create the support bundle.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
