ME4 expand storage capacity
Hi,
Before buying ME4, We would like to ask how can we expand the storage system capacity? Can we dynamically expand the storage capacity with just adding drives and automatically expand the storage capacity?
For this, we have to create Pool > DG > Volume to map to the host.
When adding dives? What is the process?
Thank you in advance.

Hello rmslive,
You can expand an ME4 with more drives or additional enclosures. When you add drives or enclosures you can then add the new space to the pool and volumes. Here is the link to the Administrator guide & if you look on page 84 it explains how to expand a disk group. https://dell.to/36YWrAL
Here is also a link to Deployment Storage Types and Recommendations, as well as the deployment guide as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to do dynamic expansion, we need to use ADAPT and over provision the volume to host?

Hello rmslive,
On page 95 of the administrator guide it states the follow for modifying a volume:
You can change the name and cache settings for a volume. You can also expand a volume. If a virtual volume is not a secondary volume
involved in replication, you can expand the size of the volume but not make it smaller. If a linear volume is neither the parent of a snapshot
Working in the Volumes topic 95
nor a primary or secondary volume, you can expand the size of the volume but not make it smaller. Because volume expansion does not
require I/O to be stopped, the volume can continue to be used during expansion.
The volume cache settings consist of the write policy, cache optimization mode, and read-ahead size. For more information on volume
cache settings, see About volume cache options.
CAUTION: Only change the volume cache settings if you fully understand how the host operating system, application,
and adapter move data so that you can adjust the settings accordingly.
The volume tier affinity settings are No Affinity, Archive, and Performance. For more information about these settings, see Volume tier
affinity features.
To see more information about a volume, hover the cursor over the volume in the table. Viewing volumes contains more details about the
Volume Information panel that appears.
