NX3000 : disks organization

Hi all,

If I understand correctly  on the NX300 comes pre-installed with the following disks organization :

/2 disks in RAID 1 where the OS is pre-installed

/4 disks in RAID 5 for the data

So finally, only 3 disks can be used to store data (4 minus 1 for the RAID) on the 6.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but using 2 disks in RAID1 for the OS look like a waste to me.

So we are thinking about using this disks organization  :

/6 disks in RAID5 with 1 hotspare with one partition for the OS and one partition for the data

Is it possible ?
Do we have everything to re-installed the NX like this ?

Please advice

I'm not sure it'll allow a different disk layout when doing the install, but if it does, keep in mind that the bootdisk cannot exceed 2TB in size. So if your 6-disk raid 5 would be over 2TB, you'll have to make it 2 virtual disks where the first one is no larger than 2TB (e.g. 50GB for just the C-drive) and the rest as a data virtual disk.

Good point ! I forgot about the bootdisk size limit. I have the feeling that keeping the disk layout is needed if you want to avoid issue and keep support easy

I will probably upgrade to the 12 disks powervault

Thx for your answer

I have done the same thing to utilize the more Disk space ,create the 80 GB partition for OS and remaining will be utilize for storage in RAID 5 Configuration.
