Powervault 100T DDS4 will not schedule backups

Hi guys

Just wondering if you could help me with a problem. Im trying to schedule a backup rotation. When i backup manually, there is no problems. But when i set a sheduled backup, the Tape drive reports that there is no tape within the drive, but ironiclly there is. Ive tried 5 different software packages and cleaned the drive regualry. This is a major problem at the moment. :smileymad:

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem. I am using Veritas BE9.0. and PV1120T SDLT Drive.
Manually set test backups were running fine but the scheduled ones were not for more than 70% of the time. It was simply alerting that the tape was not mounted when it actually was.
It was not a tape problem since a failed tape would run the next time or on a manual job. Scheduled jobs wouldn't run even on brand new tapes. Such as Fuji (that came with the Dell Drive) and HP.
The drive is pretty new and it was inspected by Dell so there was not any problems with it. It all seemed to be hopeless.

So I just simply tried to look at it with a non-tech position and manually ran a scheduled job. Well it ran fine and after that this is my 4th day that the scheduled jobs run all right. I guess there was a glitch in the scheduled job set up and by running it manually it cleaned out.
Probably the glitch was between the Backup soft and Windows (probably with MTF (Microsoft Tape Format)).

Hope this helps and if it does please respond that other users can follow it.

N.B. My post might be premature since it is only my 4th day that the problem is not there. If the problem comes back I will edit this text by putting a note on the top.
