powervault 110T - veritas backup exec - no compression

using backup exec i can't compress any data with SDLT1 120/320 GO even if i choose material or software compression in veritas configuration the compression is always 1:1

Does someone have any solution for that

first, you usually never want to choose software compression for tape drives, as this can end up turning off the hardware compression switch on the drive.

I would recommend you reflash the tape drive firmware, as that is the only way to get the hardware compression turned back on.

You may also want to check the dipswitches to ensure they are still set to have compression enabled as well.

Also, the type of data you backup can affect compression. Things like pictures, videos, and rar/zip files will not compress any further.

Have a look at this document: http://www.fujifilmusa.com/shared/bin/Data_Compression_FAQ.pdf.  It has a good high level overview of tape drive compression which helps to explain why you may not be seeing any.
