Hello all

I bought a dell powervault 650F and a powervault 35F without any cables.
I'm a compleet noob to fiber or scsi :-/
Can someone tell me what i need to create a free accessable database.
The 650F has  5 x Seagate Cheetah ST318203FC 18GB 10000RPM SCSI hd's inside.
I want to connect the 650F to a windows 2000 server.
Please dont tell me i bought the 35F for nothing:-)
My 35F has a GBIC installed.
Any information you can give me is helpfull.

Best regards

The PV35F is a fibre-scsi bridge and was/is used to connect to a DELL tape library (PV130T).  The PV35F was not used for any other connection such as a disk array.  It is for tape only.

hello Is it possible to remove the the gbic and connect the PV650F via coppercable to a server ? cause the 650F is still gathering dust in the basement overhere :-) And i still haven't found the right fibercable. You told me my PV35F is usable for tape only so if i put it between a server and the 650F it wont work....shame :-/ The PV35 would be a nice crossover from fiber to copper ;-)(thats why i bought it). I bought the PV650F to get some extra diskspace and get some experience with san's. I have a compaq proliant 1850R running as server Any info you can give me about what i need to get it running would be helpfull. Greetzzz Rob

Dell used to use a Qlogic QLA2200 1gb fibre HBA. This has the copper HSSDC connection.

Ebay list a few of these for sale.
