PowerVault not detecting on Redhat server
Hi there
I have two redhat servers and one SAN PowerVault MD 3400storage
I installed MD software both the servers and it automatically asked for Installation of Disk pools
and after installation i create host group and i add two redhat server to share the SAN
on one sever i execute lsblk it is showing 4T drive and in another server it is not displaying
now i installed iscis package and i execute discovery of the SAN IP
Its not able to ping the SAN Storage
Please guide me
Thank in advance

Hello, sekhar142.
So, I'm curious about a couple things: 1. Are these 2 servers in a cluster, with some sort of cluster management software installed? If they are not, then I'd definitely not recommend point 2 servers to the same Volumes. That's asking for corruption, and probably why the 2nd don't 'see' it. Which brings me to the second question. Is this a SAS enclosure? is this the MD3400 and not the the MD3400i? IF this is the SAS enclosure, the iscsi discovery will prove to be useless. The management ports aren't designed for iSCSI.
Here's a link to the MD3400 Deployment guide: topics-cdn.dell.com/.../powervault-md3400_Deployment%20Guide2_en-us.pdf
So, I'd like to know if you're using the MD3400 SAS enclosure, and what version of Red Hat are you running?

Hi Daniel Ca
Thanks for instant reply
1. Yes these servers are in Cluster I used Luci and Ricci software for clustering I want to attach Mysql to this SAN Storage
2. No I have Fiber channels connected to 2 Redhat Servers
It's a Dell PowerVault MD 3400/3420/3800i/3820i/3800f/3820f Storage Arrays
I m using FC enclosure and Redhat Version is Redhat 6.6 Santigo
Please guide me to install SAN Storage on my Redhat machines and Storage should be shared by these Redhat Servers
Thanks

Hello, sekhar142.
There are a couple of things I should point out. I'm going to guess that since you mentioned you're connecting via fiber, that you're using one of the MD38**f's. I would first verify that you have them cabled correctly.
You didn't mention whether you have them directly attached, or if you're using switches.
Here's a link to the support Matrix for the MD38**f: downloads.dell.com/.../MDseries_SupportMatrix_EN.pdf
It lists several OS's that support a direct connect, however RedHat 6.6 isn't listed among them.
Here's a link to the Admin's Guide that has a walk through specifically for using Linux Device Mapper. (page 195) downloads.dell.com/.../powervault-md3400_Reference%20Guide8_en-us.pdf
You need to verify that each controller on the MD has a connection to each HBA on the servers, and NOT one controller to one server. I would also verify that you have ALL the WWN's of the HBA's in the host group. If you have 2 HBA's per server, then you should have 4 WWN's in the host group.
Once you've verified the correct cabling, and that you have all the WWN's in the Host group, and you've followed the steps in the admin guide, you *should* be able to see the virtual disks from both servers.
Let me know from there.

Hi Daniel-Ca
Thanks for reply
I am not using any switches for connection , I directly attached to 2 severs (PowerEdge 530) ,and yes each Controller on the MD has the connection to each of HBA on the Servers,
If I downgrade to Redhat 6.5 does SAN discovers from the servers ???

Hi Daniel
After some debugging & cabling I found 4T drives /dev/sdx's on both servers
Node 1 :$ lsblk
sdx 8:32 0 4T 0 disk
sdy 8:16 0 4T 0 disk
Node 2:$ lsblk
sdx 8:32 0 4T 0 disk
sdy 8:16 0 4T 0 disk
Now my question is how can i make single share drive /dev/sdz so that i can map MySQL storage on both servers yet these are clusters
