Primary and Secondary Server | Disk Arrays

Hi, I'm still a noob with system administration, we're setting up a cluster hyper-v network and we're on the process of configuring it. Setup is we have 2 R610 servers and 1 MD3200 for our storage and our target is make a highly available VMs. 

1. is it possible/necessary that the primary server can only has the access to the MD3200 and the secondary is only on a standby.

or

2. Both primary and secondary server should have synchronous access to the MD3200

and/or

3. Suggest better design of the layout.
