PV 110T DLT VS80 broke again-fix or replace

Our PV 110T broke again.  Last time it was the tape lead.  It cost about $245 to fix.  Fix again or replace?

The issue is:  if we buy a new.. maybe a VS160, can the old, VS80 data cartridges be used?  If we need to restore, do we need a DLT IV(VS80) or can we use a new VS160?  And we have a bunch of new, VS80 tapes, can they be used in a VS160 drive?

Any suggestions or ideas?

Check out the media handbook on the PV110T VS160 online documentation link here.

It looks like DLT1/VS80 uses Type IV media and that a VS160 drive can read from type IV, but not write to it. So you could do restores, but for backups you'll have to buy new media (VS1 type).
