PV MD1420 + PE R740

Currently we have a R730 server connected to a MD1420 with a H830 perc.

We are planning to upgrade the server, replace it with a R740, but we are not sure if this is possible? What cable and card do we need?

Can we do this replace on hot? or do we have to recreate the volumes?

Hello Markman12,

I see you are looking to upgrade to a 14th Gen. R740 and need the MD1420 Storage compatible.

You can move over the H830 controller to the R740 and everything should work just fine.

PERC 9 – The PERC 9 cards are supported on both the 14th (R740) and 13th (R730) generation of Dell systems. The PERC 9 series of cards consist of PERC H830, H730, H730P, H330, FD33xS, and FD33xD cards. The PERC H730, H730P, and H330 cards are internal cards. The PERC H830 is an external card.

Please let me if this helped.

Thank you, your reply, it is very helpful.

This R730 also has a PV114X LTO-7 drive, connected connected through a Emulex 12 Gb SAS HBA.

Can we also connect it to a new R740?
