PV124T-Slow performance with Mac OS X
I just started using PV124T-LTO2 with OS X (G4) as my backup server. The backup software is Retrospect 6.1. As a test I did a normal backup of 125GB and the total performance was 98.5 MB/min with total duration of 43.57. At this rate I will never be able to backup all the data.
My backup software is up the latest version. I upgraded the PV124 firmware to v31. The SCSI host adapter is with the latest drivers.
As anyone out there getting a similar performance with MAC.
Please Help. I called the tech support and are no help. They don't even have a read/write test file for mac.

You could load a tape into the drive in the changer (using front panel or so) and then try using tar to see what kind of performance it can get.
If that's not up to par either, to test the changer, connect it to an Intel-based system (I assume you're using a Mac server, which don't use Intel processors yet from what I've seen) using RHEL or Windows or so and see what kind of performance you can get in there. Dell didn't certify OSX, so to verify if it's a problem stemming from the hardware or from the software (OS, drivers, etc), connecting it to a supported OS would help your case with Dell (if it's the hardware that's causing your slow performance).

The linux version tar file didn't work on OS X. I did a test of backing up local data about 11.4 GB and gave a performance of 1105.0 MB/min. Is that considered a good local performance?
Then I did a test of network backup. The data residing on Xserve. About 25.6 GB and performance of 319.1 MB/min.
How much is considered a good performance for over the network?
