Removing a virtual disk from a H700 or H800 while server is on?

I haven't figured out how to remove a virtual disk from a H800 connected to a MD1200 while MD1200 is on.  I am shutting down the T610 and MD1200 then removing the virtual disk.

T610 with H800 connected to MD1200 with two virtual disks.  First one is a RAID 10 with a total of six drives, 4 TB each drive.  Second virtual disk is a RAID 0, 4 TB.  T610 also has a H700 with two virtual disks, first one is a RAID 1 with two disks for OS, and second virtual disk is total of six disks in a RAID 10.

I have a few 4 TB that are configured for individual RAID 0 for offline backup.  I want to swap out a one virtual disk 0 for another virtual disk 0.   Am I nuts to be using a few 4 TB in RAID 0 as offline backup storage?

Another option is to move the RAID 10 on the PERC H700 to the H800 connected to the MD1200.  Then I could use the H700 and the free slots on the T610 for the RAID 0 offline disks.

I would really, really appreciate some help with swapping the disks and comments on handling offline disks as I currently have.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

First things first is that if you want to move a virtual disk from one controller to another you can move from the H700 to the H800 and the configuration will move without any issues.  What you will need to do is to move the drives out of the MD1200 that are for Virtual disk 0 & put them into the server.  Once that is done then you can import the configuration & it should bring the virtual disk back online.

The best way to move the data in my opinion is to back up the virtual disk and then create it on the controller that you wish and then restore the data to the virtual disk.
