Replace Quantum DLT4000 Tape Backup

I have a deffective internal quantum DLT400 tape drive that I am trying to replace with a new quantum DLT VS160. The PowerEdge 4400 server is not able to detect the new tape drive (VS160) after startup. I made sure that the SCSI ID is changed to 6 on the the drive and using the same cable which is terminated, but still no success. Is there something that I am missing here?

p.s. the tape drive was detected fine on a different server (PowerEdge 4600)

What scsi controller are you attached to?

Does the tape drive show up during server POST when the controller is scanned?

The tape drive does not show up during server POST. It is attached to the integrated Adaptec AIC-7880 Ultra/Wide SCSI secondary host adapter.

I just found out from quantum technical support that the AIC-7880 controller is not compatible with the VS160 tape drive. They suggested that I get an AHA-29160 scsi card to get the vs160 to work on this system.

Can you think of any other possible solutions?

You will need another adapter.

The 7880  was integrated into the server as a narrow controller. You have a wide device, you will want another controller.
