Roll Back Plan if Tape Library firmware upgrade failed
Hi Team,
Please help in advice on the below concern about Dell PowerVault TL2000 Tape Library upgrade.
What would be the roll back plan, if firmware upgrade failed? As we are planning to upgrade firmware of library from C30 to F10, what in case the firmware upgrade is not gone thru well.
1. What if firmware upgrade failed in between upgrading the library or drive?
2. What if latest firmware upgrade show unstability after the upgrade, what would be the roll back plan for library to be working again without any data loss?
moreover, is the latest F10 version is stable to upgrade or should we upgrade to E version?
Thanks.

Hi,
according to this Article:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
If ITDT-DCR is not available in the firmware package you need to download the ITDT-GE form the IBM site.
You need to register to download it.
Although the installation instructions mention that drive FW should be installed using ITDT, this is not always available and doing the Drive FW from the TL-2000/4000 web interface has never failed for me. If you can install ITDT then follow the instructions.
I never had any failure with the updates so I hope you would not be the unlucky one or I jinx myself Make sure the library is connected to a reliable powersource to avoid a power failure during the update.

Hello ankurjandial,
When you do, a firmware upgrade you want to make sure that your TL2000 doesn’t have any errors prior to the upgrade. When doing, the firmware upgrade it is best to use the web utility to do the library and ITDT to do the drives. If your firmware upgrade fails, then will need to look at the service dump log or Drive dump log to see why it failed. In most cases, you should not have any issues as long as you have your backup software services turned off during the upgrade. To, roll back the firmware you will need to contact tech support, so that they can access the system so that it can be rolled back.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
