SAS 5 E card not detecting
Hello All,
We have an MD3000 storage server connected to a PE2950 server, which was working fine for alst 7.5 years. But 2 days back it seems we are unable to see the volumes in the PE2950 server. When checked deeply, we can see the SAS 5E card itself is not getting detected in the server. I have tried removing and putting back, on different slotes etc. but no luck.
In 2950 server, we are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and use lsiutil for normal troubleshooting and all. As it is not detecting by the raid bios or OS, can't use the lsiutil for troubleshooting..
My question is, how can I confirm the card is faulty and get it replaced?
Thank you in advance.

Hello Premod Dev,
Since you have tried the card into different slots & the BIOS is still not seen the card then it has most likely failed. Here is the dell part# M778G or FD467 to get a replacement card. I did some checking & dell is not selling the SAS5E card still but you can find it still being sold from other 3rd party places if you do a web search using the dell part#.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you SAM for the reply.
I also have contacted Dell and they said they are not selling the replacement part now. I found some reseller on web, will be buying from one of them.
I will update here, when it get replaced.

I have the exact same setup with the exact same issue. (Running Win Server 2012). I initially moved the SAS 5/e card to another slot. It still did not show up in Bios. I ordered a new SAS 5/e card, installed it and nothing. I also tried it in both slots. Still does not show up.
1st update:
I also replaced entire chassis using original raid card and the same issue occurs. Can the issue be the Perc 5i causing the SAS 5/e not to show up in Bios?
New Update: I have now replaced the Perc 5i raid card and imported the config. Rebooted and SAS 5/e still does not show up? (This is a new SAS 5/e card.
Any ideas?

Hello CT Tech,
What is the model of server that you are using as you didn’t state that in your post? If you monitor your server while it is booting does it hang on trying to find your sas 5e card? Which slots have you tried to put your sas 5e card into?
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
