Switching from joined-bus to split-bus modes

Question

My 220S has been running in joined-bus mode since I bought it. Now I would like to change to a split-bus. Currently the only drives being used compose a RAID5 array including drives 5, 8, 9, 10, and 11, which extend across the boundary where the split will occur. Question 1. Can I physically move these five drives to occupy bays 0-4 and expect the array to remain intact? Quesdtion 2. Is it reasonable to expect that an array on the 220S would continue to be addressable if I were to replace the server now connecting to it with another newer server (e.g. replace a PE 2650 with an 1850)? The array is a Netware NSS partition. Thanks.

1. Yes 2. Possible.  As long as your array controller remains the same all will be well.   I am assuming that you have a Perc4.  Power down the server and then the PV220.  Disconnect the cable from the Perc and PV220.  Move your drives.  Power up the server (yes leave the cable disconnected!!!).  Go into the controller config (ctrl-M).  Configure -> Clear configuartion -> YES.   Power off the server and then reattach the cable.  Power up the PV220 and then the server.  Go back into Ctrl-M.  Configure -> View/Add config.  It *should* notice that there is a config on the drives and ask if you would like to load the config from NVRAM or Disk ->  choose DISK!.  Save and exit.

this is good news.  thanks, but when you say the controller needs to remain the same, do you mean the version, or the actual physical controller would need to be moved to the new server?
