T-124 PowerVault Cleaning Automatic

I've had a T-124 Powervault now for little over a year. When we put it into service I inserted a Cleaning Tape into slot #8, set it to automatic and so far I guess it's been cleaning.

I can't find anything in logs to say it cleaned.  I'm not getting any errors but because I don't know how often it's running I don't know when I'm due to replace the cleaning tape.

How often does the cleaning operation run when set to automatic?

Is there a way to tell the number of cleanings that have happened?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Set it and Forget it!

The drive will request cleanings based on either exceeding the amount of motion hours between cleanings (clean periodic) or based on an increase read/write error rate (clean now).

Once the cleaning media has exceeded the # of allowed mounts per its spec it will report expired ( I believe it is 50 mounts-I'm not 100% on that #). The next time the media is inserted the drive will reject the media w/ the Expired Cleaning cartridge message. The tape has a cartridge memory that keeps track of how many times it has been mounted.

Not sure if there is a log entry in the 124T for autoclean or not, but you will know it is not working when you get a manual message either via the library or the ISV s/w stating that the drive needs cleaning.

Hope this helps... Bob
