Does the SCSI controller show the device during server POST?

Does the operating system detect the device?

If the SCSI controller is not detecting the tape during server POST then the OS never will.

Is the tape drive internal to the server or is this an external drive?

Does the tape drive appear to power on normally, do you see the LED's run through a POST cycle?

What SCSI controller do you have the tape attached to?

Is it the only device on that controller?

Do you know what SCSI ID the tape drive is set to?

Verify no problems with the cable and terminator.

hi

i changed the id to 8 (it was on id 6) en and
the scsi did detected the tape drive
it is an external drive
the tape drive does turns on normal with the regular post ending with the green light ready
i'm not sure wich scsi controler type i'm using it does say aic 39160 where it detects the tape drive

where do i see how many devices are on the controller

but wheni try to make a back up with nt backup it gives
me the following error
there is no unused media available with the selected type
i used the same tape that i made a backup of

thanks

If you had other devices attached to the 39160 they would also be listed under the card during POST.

So it is a good sign you are seeing your drive during POST. It would appear the hardware is working correctly.

Do you now see the tape drive listed in the Device Manager either under tape drives or other devices?
