the main differencs between PowerVault and PowerEdge
Hi all,
I'm just wondering what the main differences are between the PowerVault and the powerEdge lines. I know that PowerVault is a NAS storage solution whereas the PowerEdge is a server, but what else marks them as being different? I know that both lines exist in both rack and tower configurations, but what else? Thank for any information you have. I'm trying to educate myself on as many products as I can.

PowerVault itself isn't actually necessarily NAS; it's really more "storage".
Dell has:
- PowerVault SAN (e.g. MD32xx-series)
- PowerVault Tape (e.g. TL2000)
- PowerVault NAS (e.g. NX3000)
If you're just wanting to know the difference between PowerVault NAS and PowerEdge; PowerEdge is available with more OS options (and not certain NAS-specific OSes (e.g. Windows 2008 R2 Storage Server)).

Oh okay. So I also know that some NAS devices connect directly to the router such as some of the Seagate and Synology network NAS servers. Are the NX series the same in that they also work like that? And another thing, can you connect a powerEdge and a PowerVault so that they can see each other's data and such? These are all just random questions I've had for a long time. Thanks for the feedback.
