Upgrade Question for Server connected to 2 220S

I'm fixing to upgrade our PowerEdge 2650 this weekend from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server Standard.  The server is connected to two 220S, each having close to 900 GB total in drives.  Last time we upgraded our server, somehow both of the 220S would not recognize and we had to rebuild, restore all data, etc.  A very timely process and very frustrating.
 
So, this go round, I'm hoping for a little advice on what steps I should take to install the new OS (fresh install, not upgrade) and re-attach the storage and make it recognize the data.
 
It uses the PERC 3/DC Controller
 
Any help is greatly appreciated.

First off...make sure the volumes on your 220 are NOT dynamic disks.
 
Then, disconnect the 220 from the server during upgrade.  This is to make sure that there's no way the 220 gets "touched" during reinstall.
 
After all is well, then you should just be able to reconnect the 220, read the config from disk in the PERC BIOS and you'll be fine.
 
But if those volumes are dynamic, then you're probably going to lose the data when you change the OS.

Since they both show "Basic" rather than dynamic, simply disconnect the cables and keep powered off during the upgrade?  Once I bring the server online with OS and updates, just plug it back in...  where do I find the "config from disk in the PERC BIOS"?  Is there some documentation I should look for?
