Where is my space?
Hello.
I have a problem with pool capacity presented to hyper-v hosts
I got recently installed and configured new PowerVault ME4024 storage with 12 SAS SSD 960GB and 12 SAS HDD 1,2TB.
I've created 2 disk groups: 1-st with all SSD's and 2-nd with all HDD's.
Each RAID6 with dedicated hot spare. So total capacity should be around ((12-2-1)*1,2+(12-2-1)*0,96) 19,44TB
Then I've created pool of these two disk groups, and then a volume from that pool (full size).
The volume shows total capacity of 19,3TB just as it should.
But when I presented this pool to a hyper-v host (Win Srv 2019 Core) it shows 17,6TB capacity
So there's 1,7TB missed somewhere. But where?...
Or should I ask on MS Tech forum?

Hello nekalyan,
Here is a link to Dell EMC PowerVault ME4 Series and Microsoft Hyper-V, I would double check to make sure that you have deployed your system to best practices as stated in this guide. If you are still seeing a loss of 1.7 TB then I would look into Microsoft issue.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Vmware hosts do the same thing. The discrepancies in size is due to how you calculate what a TB is. Either based on the decimal or binary definition. It would appear the host is calculating a TB to be binary 2 to the 40 which is 1, 099,511,627,776 bytes, and the ME4024 is calculating a TB to be 10 to the 12th which is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.
Why does the ME4024 do it this way when the older SCv2020 did it the other way? Seems to confuse things a lot.

Also you can change this in the system settings, manage users, and change base preference to base 2. Logout of the web gui and back in and it will update.
