Dell 5820 CPU Compatibility
Hello, the motherboard that is in my 5820 says 002KVW on the sticker near the cpu. Will this board accept the w-22xx series cpu or only the w-21xx series? I am still on bios version 2.0.2 but there is a update available that I haven’t updated yet.

OP you can upload a user benchmark of your pc which will show the exact DP/N of your 5820 motherboard.
I ran down a rabbit hole after chino alerted me and I just found out there are 6 different DP/N of C422 5820 mobo and 3 different DP/N of X299 5820 mobo. Dell conveniently described the X299 mobo as 5820T-X.
Interestingly I believe 02KVM is a C422 mobo which supports Xeon cpu.

@redxps630 thank you. I was confused because there was a Reddit post I came across that the 5820 with motherboard p/n 6JWJY accepts the w-22xx series cpu because I was looking at the w-2295

Sorry for posting my comment to a solved thread. But, I have opposite response. Hopefully it may stop OP in time from ordering the processor that may not work.
The list of processors from redxps630 are processors being sold with the 5820 from Dell. But, OP's board can not support all of them. For example, Core-X series processors require different motherboards with different chipset than the motherboards that support Xeon processors.
My answer to OP inquiry is NO. If the motherboard is 00KVM, it will not support Xeon W-22xx CPU.
If OP has access to US market, it will be cheaper to get a whole system with Xeon W-2295 than purchasing the CPU alone.

Chino is correct that there are two different chipsets C422 and X299 (therefore two motherboard versions) offered for 5820
the C422 chipset is strictly limited to work with workstation processors only

@Chino de Oro thank you for clarifying that. The cpu I currently have is a w-2135. With the w-22xx series processor. Is there really any performance boost over the w-21xx series? Seems like the only difference is being newer

If you currently have Xeon W-21## cpu in 5820, your motherboard has C422 chipset I believe. Therefore W-22## is compatible too.
user benchmark shows these 5820 motherboard part number support Xeon W-22## and W-21## cpus (and have C422 chipset)

In contrast these are some of the 5820 X299 motherboard. These motherboards have a description 5820T-X for Intel Core X cpu.

5820T motherboard (C422)
vs 5820T-X motherboard (X299)
C422 chipset mobo
for Xeon cpu
X299 chipset mobo

@mcnaught82 , yes, the second generation of Xeon W processors are around 10% - 15% faster than the first generation of Xeon W processors. In addition, it can support faster memory as well.
Unfortunately, the board of 02KVM (mistyped as 02KVW) does not work with Xeon W-22xx processors last time I checked.

@Chino de Oro I’ve seen some of the lower end w-22xx going pretty cheap on eBay. I might just purchase one to test it out

some more user report:
“There are a few revisions of the motherboard used in a 5820 ( same goes for the 7820 and 7920 ). The initial revision when the units were put on the market around 2017 works only with W-21xx.
The revision put out when they started to offer the option to sell it with a W-22xx ( I think during 2019 ? ) , supports both 21xx and 22xx”
“If you bought this 5820 in 2017 (you can check with the Service Tag here Product Support | Dell US ), it'll not work with 22xx cpus. It's not a bios issue, some components are slightly upgraded later on, to allow the use of W-22xx”
@DELL-Chris M do you have Dell confirmation of which 5820 boards are for W-21## only?

@redxps630 No, the parts page does not specify. It just list the motherboard part numbers.
