Dell T5500 Shuts Down Randomly
I have a Dell Precision T5500 that I saved from the scrap heap at my church. I upgraded the CPU and heat sink (single X5690/0U016F), RAM (6 x 4GB ECC (24GB)), graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti 11GB), PSU (DELL 1000W) and HDD (SAMSUNG EVO 870 1TB SSD). A fresh install of Win 10 Professional topped off the upgrade. I installed Speedfan to monitor CPU temps and set the fans to 100% for anything above 50°C. My problem is that the computer restarts randomly. It sometimes happens during gaming, network transfers, Internet use, video rendering, or even when I am using MS Word. Any ideas what the issue may be?

Hopefully it's not the PSU on its way out. First, try replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery. Bad batteries messes with BIOS messes with the PC.

Check the events logged in windows around the time of the issues ( control panel > administrative tools > event viewer ), they should give an hint about the issue.
(could be one ram module being a bit dodgy, could be speedfan causing issues >>> try without having speedfan messing with the system )

@mazzinia_ Installing SpeedFan made no change in regard to the restarts. I did narrow it down to a bad RAM module. I have another post that has updated information.

@herringbur Unfortunately, the event log showed nothing and the blue screen dump showed past memory errors (I think), but nothing since I replaced the RAM.

Does the T5500 support ECC ram? Is there a blue screen with error message?
