EEC or not EEC...
The specification in the manual lists RDIMM and EEC memory as “ideal”, but will this Precision 5820T with Xeon W-2155 CPU running at 2666MHz ACCEPT unbuffered and non-EEC 16GB RAMs? These are relatively cheap and readily available here in Sweden, while the ECC models are not. Originally a server, this PC is a second-hand home computer nowadays, so the Error-Correction Code should no longer be an issue.
Does anyone know what MAKE the 4*16GB RAMs are that came installed from the factory in these machines? I aim at filling up the remaining 4 slots with identical RAMs but I would rather not mix different brands. I cannot access the computer right now to check myself. Can I find and install 4 additional identical RAMs, then I wouldn't have to invest in a complete set of 8 new ones. After all, it's a pretty old machine...

1. Unfortunately, no. Your 5820 does not accept unbuffered and non-EEC 16GB RAM. Only RDIMM.
2. If you are original owner, follow advise from other poster and look up your system configurations on Dell support site for your existing memory. Otherwise, access system BIOS and it will tell you all the memory information. Then, use this memory configurations to purchase additional memory modules to match with your selected of a support configuration for upgrade.

Re: the 4*16GB RAMs are that came installed from the factory in these machines
if you look up original spec using service tag (which you can retrieve remotely if you can connect to PC) will tell you the DP/N of memory installed which in turn points to original memory maker
it is best to buy 4 more identical oem ram (same as original 4) using the memory maker model number which is inexpensive

Thanks redxps630! One of these seem to match the installed DIMMs, but since no other identification is shown (make or #) it would be difficult to find the proper one online.

@Chino de Oro Thank you for the input, now I know where to look! The DELL Support site lists all devices installed when this machine came out from the factory, but I wasn't able to identify the brand of the DIMMs, I'll have to look again! Not that I'm very optimistic about finding affordable identical *NEW* DIMMs (there are plenty of "refurbished" ones on sale at eBay...) but at least I know I've tried... Appreciate your response!

@redxps630 The 7:th from above.
16GB RDIMM, 2666MT/s, Dual Rank
The next one may do so too, but I can't read Russian. Obviously there are several that would fit but I need to find the one from the same producer and see if it also fit in my wallet...

the Russian translates to "16 GB RDIMM, 2666 MT/s, dual-rank"
#7
16GB RDIMM, 2666MT/s, Dual Rank

I can confirm that VM51C is compatible and support with your 5820. Verify if this vendor can ship product in your region https://www.lambda-tek.com/DELL-VM51C-sh/B42959859?srsltid=AfmBOop6xp_iXPJ_ifBdQtfOX-2_a2_XesrEuv4Tpxf1KoOjF_j0L_-4

Thanks, but, as I wrote earlier, I am NOT interested in alternative "compatible" brands, nor "refurbished" RDIMMs - which VM51C is. Unless the modules are NEW and IDENTICAL with those onboard, I won't buy.

For compatible RAM, I suggest to look into Crucial https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/precision-5820-(intel-xeon-w-21xxx-models)
Reason I suggest used OEM because they are likely to be compatible when adding to your existing RAM. The 5820 is no longer being sold from Dell. Many off leases are decommissioned and flooded the markets with used RAM that look just like brand new. Purchase them from servers stores that being honest about the origin can save you a lot of money comparing sourcing new RAM from Dell. Just run memory test after receiving them https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-memory-upgrade-16gb-2rx8-ddr4-rdimm-3200-mt-s/apd/aa783421/memory
