M.2 card requirements

Hi all, I have a Precision 5810 tower and I'm considering upgrading my boot drive from a SATA SSD to possibly a M.2 NVMe SSD running off a PCIe internal card. I wanted to ask what hardware i would need/what is recommended. Also, I wanted to ask if there are any special settings i would need to alter in the BIOS so it could detect and boot from the PCIe mounted M.2 SSD. Thanks!

I'm using the Asus card on a fleet of 5810's and 5820's to boot without issue.

Each of the four NVME disks shows up in BIOS - I'm multi-booting various OS'es.

Have not tried soft-raid or VROC yet from the card - next project perhaps over the holidays.

Your BIOS would have to support booting from PCIe NVME,  to find this out you'll need to contact support You might find this by reading the update info on al the BIOS upgrades available for your model/Service tag

This is great news @tl_mdx, thanks for posting it! I was looking at the same card, though i was also looking at the Startech version of the technology which only has one port on it, but i'm not sold yet on it. Either way, does the card and drive show up in the BIOS that you can set at the primary boot drive? Also, did you have to load any drivers into the Windows 10 boot media for the drive to be seen by that?

    Thanks!

Hey, wouldn't the PCI-e x4 lane be gen-2 only impeding it to run only 2GB/s
So we shouldn't be buying higher end or fastest M2 drives, correct ?
