Precision T7910 - SATA drives not compatible?

The manual for the T7910 is a little confusing.

It states......

"SATA Operation
Tower 7910

Allows you to configure the internal SATA hard-drive controller.
The options are:
• Disabled
• ATA
• AHCI (Default)

NOTE: SATA is configured to support RAID mode. No SATA
operation support in Tower 7910."

I've installed a 3.5" SATA into a T7910 and the BIOS system info is not 'seeing' the drive and indeed only shows that SAS drives are supported (there are two SATA slots for Optical drives shown in the BIOS).

So, as the manual isn't exactly clear.......

Does this mean.

SATA drives are not supported?

SATA drives are only supported if in a RAID configuration?

Something else (for the manual reader to guess as it's a Dell game)?

I don't know much about your system but allow me to explain my understanding

The SATA options are:
• Disabled :   select this option if you are going to use a PCIe controller (LSI) or integrated SAS.
• ATA :   select this option if you are using legacy SATA drives
• AHCI (Default) :  leave at this option for SATA drives.  Same as ATA but including advanced protocols.

Regarding RAID, you can do soft RAID via Windows.

Regarding not visible SATA drives, verify the connection to SATA ports and BIOS settings to AHCI.  Also checking the obvious such as cables, drives.

SAS drives can not work with SATA ports but SATA drives can work with SAS ports.
