it is  quad channel

DIMM# are symmetrically assigned, like mirror image

mobo silkscreen

DIMM2 white
DIMM6 black
DIMM4 white
DIMM8 black

CPU

DIMM7 black
DIMM3 white
DIMM5 black
DIMM1 white

manual may have an error in notation

"chassis" 1, 2, 3, 4 should be "channel" 1, 2, 3, 4

1st column is total memory installed

Table 1. Memory configuration
Tower 5810 Ch 0 Ch 1 Ch 2 Ch 3
Total (GB) 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 1
4 4
8 4 4
16 4 4 4 4
32 8 8 8 8
32 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4
64 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
128 16 16 16 16 16 16 16 16
256 32 32 32 32 32 32 32 32

DIMM convention:

white slot is slot 1 of a memory channel.

DIMM1 white: slot 1 of ch0

DIMM2 white: slot 1 of ch1

DIMM3 white: slot 1 of ch2

DIMM4 white: slot 1 of ch3

no.. what im looking for (and the manual should have done it this way) is,

channel 0, sub 0 = DIMM #__

channel 0, sub 1 = DIMM #__

etc.. DIMM #'s on the chart.. this would be totally clear

In the Precision 5810, support memory configurations can be installed as follow:

1 stick of RAM, install to DIMM1

2 sticks of RAM, install to DIMM1  +  DIMM2

4 sticks of RAM, install to DIMM1  +  DIMM2  +  DIMM3  +  DIMM4

8 sticks of RAM, install to all DIMM slots.

System will support these sticks of RDIMM RAM:  4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB.

DIMM slot numbering is imprinted on motherboard and electrical overview label on side panel.

For some working unsupported memory configurations, install the extra stick(s) to the next numbering DIMM slot

One of my ram slots is damaged. While particular about balance, the 5810 will allow for a channel to go unused, as well as with mixed capacities.

Known working config is such:

Slot # —> Channel.slot—> Chip
DIMM1 --> ch0.0—> 4g
DIMM2 —> ch1.0 —> 4g
DIMM3 —> ch2.0 —> EMPTY
DIMM4 —> ch3.0 —> 8g
DIMM5 —> ch0.1 —> 4g
DIMM6 —> ch1.1 —> 4g
DIMM7 —> ch2.1 —> EMPTY
DIMM8 —> ch3.1 —> 8g

With proper balance, 4g and 16g sticks can mix. I did not record the configuration that worked for me, but I believe 2x4g sticks in one channel and 1x16g in another, with a third wholly unpopulated channel. Also, balance across both sides of the CPU (odd vs even DIMMs) seemed to work best.
