RTX A4000 on dell precision 5820

Hi, I am facing an issue with my motherboard when I install my new RTX A4000 on my dell precision 5820 tower desktop which I bought in 2018. right after installation, the motherboard crashes and doesn't power on, is this because of a compatibility issue? if yes then how can I upgrade my motherboard so that it supports the new graphics cards and processors?

Precision 5820 outfitted with RTX A5000 here and here.

Precision 5820 installed with RTX A6000 here and here.

They are all performed very well in benchmark.  So an RTX A4000 should not have upgrade problem.

Can you list your system specs here (do not post any private info such as system tag)

HI thanks for the reply, right now my spec are:

intel xeon W-2135 - 6 cores

16gb ecc ram, quadro P2000 (now upgrading to RTX A4000).

every time i try installing the Rtx, the motherboards bricks and i have to replace with a new one.
i dont know if its the BIOS that need to be updated before installing or its not compatible with the precision 5820 early motherboards from 2018.

Your 5820 has a 6 cores CPU, Dell would have shipped it with a 950w PSU.  The RTX A4000 is well within the power requirements.  Did you install it on slot 2 and used a 6-pin power cable?

Some retail cards would required enable/disable of secure boot for the system to accept it but hardly causing a bricked motherboard.

Secure Boot enables security for BIOS/PC until the OS/Windows kicks in with it's security.  However, Secure Boot has been known to not allow some GPU cards to work.

Secure Boot is in BIOS.  To access BIOS, press F2 repeatedly upon startup.  No need to wait for Dell logo or keyboard light.  Arrow down to Secure Boot > Secure Boot Enable.  Screengrab below (Secure Boot not highlighted):

1. Is there anything that I should change like power supply in  BIOS before installing this GPU or anything in general like RAM.

2. And which slot of pcie should I install this GPU (Quadro rtx A4000) . It's 140 w power consumption

Remember Chino's question? - "Your 5820 has a 6 cores CPU, Dell would have shipped it with a 950w PSU.  The RTX A4000 is well within the power requirements.  Did you install it on slot 2 and used a 6-pin power cable?"

Re:  every time i try installing the Rtx, the motherboards bricks and i have to replace with a new one.

How many motherboard did you replace so far?  If the same issue was happening to all the boards, the problem could be with the graphics card.

Try to put the P2000 back to see if any motherboards can be salvaged?

Regarding your questions, do not use slot 5 for graphics as it physically wired as x4 pcie lane (best use for thunderbolt).  Slot 2 and slot 4 are designated for graphics cards (each slot can provide 75w of power) and a 6-pin cable could give you 75w.  Together, it should handle your 140w card with no power issue.

Here is the user manual and technical specifications for T5820 , use it as reference when working on your machine.
