Dell Precision 7510 run 2 4k monitors?
can a Dell Precision 7510 run 2 4k monitors?
I have the 7510 connected to an E-port plus
The monitors have display port and HDMI

@warrenTDO Yes, but assuming you want to use them at the standard 60 Hz rather than 30 Hz, there are some requirements:

Hello, I think I have the second generation K09A002.
My 2-off USB ports are blue with the USB3 symbol which is great as i didnt know I had ports around there

Hello, well im expereancing issues.
The monitor have turned up. ive come out of the back of the dock to both monitors (display ports) and nothing happens.
when I disconnect the monitor plugged into the right port (while looking at the doc from the back the left hand monitor works. when I plug anything into the right hand port they both go off. when I plug anything into the right hand port i dont get a signal. Could it be a faulty docking station right hand port?

@warrenTDO A dock problem is a possibility, as is a docking connector problem within your system, I guess. Here is Dell's own KB article confirming that dual 4K 60 Hz is possible. It does note that you need discrete NVIDIA/AMD graphics to achieve dual 4K 60 Hz rather than single 4K 60 Hz, but if memory serves, I don't think it was possible to order the Precision 7510 without discrete graphics.

Hello, thank you for the help. it has a m2000m card.
i think me messing has made it worse.
i now have display settings showing on the other monitor that is not plugged in! (showing in preview when ALT-TAB).

uninstalled the drivers and now i can get back to the laptop screen and single external monitor working.
i dont have the usb-c option on my laptop only hdmi and mini display port.
i think it may be docking station time. can anyone recommend a cheep one to get my 2-off 4k working.
Tempted to get another E-Port II plus but not if its 7 years old like mine

@warrenTDO Then it sounds like the system is seeing that display. Is that other display on the correct input?

Hello, it is seeing the monitor because I can plug the lead in and it appears as monitor 3 in 'Display' setting, then my laptop screen goes off i dont think its the monitor as then when I swap the cables the left monitor comes on.
it seems is anything thats plugged into that display port!
what is strange is that in display setting when I select detect with only one monitor plugged in I get a little screen with the word 'display not detected'.

@warrenTDO If your system doesn't have Thunderbolt 3, then the only docking stations you can use are Dell's E-Port docks, and the only one that will run dual 4K 60 Hz is the second-gen E-Port II Plus. Even if you did have TB3, none of those docks would be able to charge that system adequately, so you'd have to keep the power adapter attached. The reason is that the USB PD spec only supports up to 100W charging. Dell stretched that out to 130W with some of their docks and systems, but even that isn't enough for your system. Dell fixed this starting with the Precision 7x20 generation by adding two USB-C/TB3 connectors on the systems and then designing docks (the TB18DC and WD19DC) that plug into both of those connectors in order to push enough total power across those two ports to run a Precision 7000 Series system. But the 7x10 systems don't have that.

Hello Jphughan, can i say thank you again for the information.
Just for kicks i can get the second monitor running by coming out of the laptop HDMI and using the doc for the other monitor. Yup, i only get 30Hz. If i move the 4K from the doc to the other doc port i lose the signal. This must mean that port 1 (or 2 depending what documentation you read) is faulty. i think its time to look for a replacement Dell's E-Port docks (blue USB) Model K09A002. Although its working i think 60Hz will be better.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for your guidance and info.

@warrenTDO Happy to help! The good news is that E-Port II (second gen) Plus docks are quite cheap these days. In the US they can be had for about $35. They won’t include a power adapter, and that WOULD be expensive in your case since you’d need a 240W unit to dock that system, but you’ve already got that, so you just need the main dock unit. Please let me know how it goes with the replacement!

Hello, just picking up on the power requirements that you mentioned.
I have noticed that my power supply is the model dw5g3 which is only rated to 180w?
Do you think I will have a problem with this?

@warrenTDO My recollection, which may not be accurate in this case, is that when pulling power through a Dell dock, the dock always needs to be using a power adapter that is at least one "size" up in wattage compared to what the system is designed for. This is intended to ensure there's enough power to run the dock's own internal electronics and provide power to any USB devices you might connect to it. I know that's the case when using that dock with systems designed for 90W sources, because when you order a dock with such systems, the dock comes with a 130W adapter. But I don't know about the Precision 7000 Series systems for sure. My guess though would be that if your system is designed for a 180W power supply when the AC adapter is connected directly to it, then you'd want a 240W power supply for the dock to ensure the system still received adequate power while also maintaining enough reserve from the dock. I'm not sure what would happen if you used a 180W power adapter for the dock when you're docking a system that itself is designed for 180W.
