Welcome to the Dell Community @Marc..D

Nothing Dell produces can compete with the HP ZBook 17 G6.

The quality, performance and service can't be beat.

Even the documentation is a vast improvement over anything Dell has ever published.

Counterpoint:  The hardware may be amazing, but you will need to hope you never need support.  You will find HP a big step behind Dell -- particularly in workstation-class support.

There are options from a source you may not have considered:  custom-built gaming/workstation systems.  These are built by Clevo and sold by a host of boutique builders - OriginPC, Sager, AVA, Eurocom, etc.  You'll also find most of the boutique builders provide a level of support that's excellent -- on par or better than Dell, and certainly head and shoulders above HP in this regard.

Some of the Lenovo X1 Extreme systems are good competitors as well - and Lenovo's support again is head and shoulders above what you'll find from HP.

Unless you have a highly regarded VAR/reseller that does its own HP support, think carefully before jumping in -- of the majors, HP is well below the others in the quality of support offered.

Hi, thankyou for you comments.

I currenlty have an unusable Precision 7750 xeon,4k 17", 64gb, quadro 5000. Very very expensive machine. Less than a year old and It's been unusable for almost 2 months awaiting repair (even though it has a 3yr next day onsite repair warranty from Dell). So I would hardly rate Dell as a above anyone for customer service.

Our office has around 50 machines that are mostly HP Z Series workstations or HP spectre/elitebook. HP are hitNmiss performance. Is Supplied HP keyboards not able to work with HP machines. An MSI WE laptop (gaming card) can print what 3 different Z2/6 workstations cant.

The performance of this line MSI product is why I was enquiring re actual real life commentary on alternatives as I can't keep waiting for Dell to fix their faulty Precision machine and have limited faith in HP.

The MSI products also appear to have full keyboards instead of silly mini arrow keys on the Dell Precision & HP Zbook. Just hard to find retailers for MSI and AsusProart

@Marc..D

There is nothing like experience to comment on performance and service reliability.

My recommendation was made because of my experience with the ZBook 17 G2 not from a Google search.

7+ years running almost 24/7 and not 1 problem.

Repairing/Refurbishing Dell, IBM, HP, Panasonic and others for the past 20+ years.

From experience I can say that Dell laptops require more repairs than any of the others by far.

Best regards and happy hunting,

U2
