Mute button acting as volume down button
I got this laptop (the dell precision M6800) from someone and what I have noticed is that the mute button acts like the volume down button whereas the volume up and down buttons don't do anything. there are also some other questions regarding this, but I'll save them for later.

I've had similar problems with the physical volume buttons not working properly on one of my M6800s. You may get away with just replacing the little board that contains the circuitry for the volume buttons, or if that fails then you could try replacing the whole palmrest.
