Well, the Precision 7520 is a workstation laptop, and as a laptop workstation, it's graphics card is sometimes upgradable, as is the case with the Precision 7520. The card type is as follows:

MXM 3.0 Type A (55 watts)

It's the smaller version compared to the larger, more high powered cousin, Type B

As of this entry in late 2023, the best (most powerful) MXM 3.0 type A GPU available in the United States is the NVIDIA GTX 1650, which (at the time of this entry) sells for about $299. China has (or had) some NVIDIA Quadro T1000s (which is a GPU quite similar to the GTX 1650 in capability except it's geared for workstations). If you can even FIND one, it's probably going to cost you about $300, PRE OWNED.

A less powerful (and pricey) alternative, but still an upgrade, would be the MXM 3.0 type A GTX 1050Ti, or the MXM 3.0 type A Quadro P2000 (again, both equals, but geared in different ways). Regardless, they can both do some lightweight gaming and video editing, if you don't get TOO serious. Those both sell for around $200 in late '23.

Other than that, there the GTX 1050 for around $125 to $150, but the gain would be negligible (maybe 7% or 8%), so ... Unless it's just a project for learning, I wouldn't waste the money.

So how powerful is the GTX1650 and T1000? 50% gain... Maybe 60%, at best, compared to the Quadro M2200. That might sound enticing, but when compared to the NVIDIA RTX 3050 (for desktops) which is several times more powerful and can be had for about the same price... Basically, it would have to be one of those situations where "I've got years of work tied to this laptop, and I don't want the hassle of transferring everything to a new laptop". New operating system, new drivers, and all the data? Not to mention some of the apps you're using may stop functioning properly when they're just "THROWN" into a new system... They have to be INSTALLED, for that operating system and that hardware. So, yeah. It would be time consuming and somewhat costly if you had to hire someone to sort through all of that, and even then, it likely wouldn't be perfect.

If it's just an upgrade for gaming, ehhh... Honestly? If portability isn't a factor, you would do better if you bought a decent desktop (i7 or Ryzen 7) with 32GB of RAM from like 2019 for a few hundred (maybe 300 or 400?), then installed a graphics card in THAT, for another $150 or $200. It would cost a few hundred more, but it would give you several TIMES the gaming and editing ability, PLUS it would be a lot less work to upgrade, not to mention more cost effective. Then you could slowly work on adding your apps, one at a time, then, once you get your data transferred, you could sell your laptop.

If portability is definitely a factor, then it may be worth it to you.

Yeah, eGPU's are an option, in which case I would consider the entire system SOMEWHAT portable, but again, as far as value, you eventually may feel a little disappointed.

First, you have to buy the enclosure. That's usually around $300. Then, you have to select a graphics card. Using a popular mainstream GPU like the NVIDIA RTX 3050, for example, you would spend another $300. Add to that some misc cables for $25, and after all is said and done, you're only getting 2/3 of the cards capability UNLESS you hook up a separate external monitor ran directly from the eGPU box, and by then, your "portable" laptop is starting to seem more like a desktop system.

So the only recourse for this is to OVERSPEND on the graphics card to compensate for the performance loss, so your $300 RTX 3050 just turned into a $450 RTX 3060TI for a total of probably $750 (before tax), just so you can have RTX 3050 capability.

So again, the question is, how important is portability (or more specifically, portable graphics)?

@HedgeFundManager​  actually this model does have an upgrade gpu for example the Nvidia quadro m3000m which is 10 - 20% faster, if your going to reply to a post on a help forum plz do little research first yes most laptop do not have upgrade gpus but this one in piticular does

@domob​ it can take the mxm type cards, they are much smaller, lower power mobile cards, but yes it can take gpu's (ONLY MXM A 3.0 TYPE, DONT BUY A FULL SIZE CARD EXPECTING IT TO WORK)

@kakawoidada​ you should be able too, I haven't tried myself, but it seems to be compatible, and appears to have higher performance, it's a mxm 3.1 A, and the Dell 7520 is mxm 3.0 but mxm is backwards compatible, with a few exceptions, it should be possible tho
