Upgrading GPU on Precision M6800
I have an older version of this laptop that has a Nvidia Quadro K3100M and an i7-4910MQ. I’m wanting to upgrade my gpu but I would like some assistance. I was thinking maybe a gtx 1080 but I don’t think my computer can handle it without a motherboard upgrade. I could use some help.
Thanks.

Officially supported Nvidia GPUs:
Quadro K3100M
Quadro K4100M
Quadro K5100M
Works using modded drivers:
Quadro M3000M
Quadro M4000M
Quadro M5000M
Geforce GTX 980M 8GB
Should work if your M6800 has an IPS screen and modded drivers
Quadro P3000
Quadro P4000
Quadro P5000
On a personal note... I am not a big fan of the heatsink setup in the Precision M6800. Unlike all of the other 17" Precision laptops in recent history, the GPU is only cooled by one of the two cooling fans in the system.

Depending on the location of the video chip on the board.
And the chipset that surrounds that chip.
All must have contact to the heatsink.
I could check the ones I have and let you know if I have one.
Do you live in the US???

@ahmadhelmy
We needed some extra space in warehouse so the warehouse techs stacked all the m6400, m6500, m6800's etc. on one pallet.
We have a shipping container of laptops, hopefully it will be going out early next week.
After that I should be able to check the m6800's for the card and heatsink.
Let you know what I find then.

U2

I also have an M6800, but with the AMD FirePro M6100. I'm looking to upgrade to the K4100M. Would I need anything else other than the Nvidia heatsink to replace it?

Hello,
I have a M6800 with a K3100M card (NVIDIA Corporation GK104GLM [Quadro K3100M] (rev a1)).
I have another M6800 with an AMD firepro card, and wanted to put in an NVIDIA card in it. So I got another K3100M card, and swapped it with the AMD card.
The laptop (that I swapped cards in) works/boots, BUT It will not show anything on the display in a docking station. also, in it's bios it shows "Intel graphics HD", while in the other laptop that originally had the K3100M installed it actually shows to have an NVIDIA card.
any suggestions on how to solve that? (I want it to work in a docking station)
thanks,
Ron

I would like to replace k4100m gpu with m5000m, do I have to do heatsync modifications or can I just replace the cards and modify the driver?

I'm actually trying to do that and unfortunately the cooler you have shared isn't the right size for Quadro m3000m and nobody explains which one works for it
Thank you in advance
