922 Communication Error

I have tried everything Gina and Eric said... I got the right driver folder cleared out, restarted, re-downloaded the vista drivers, etc. Even uninstalled the 922 program completely. But the printer still "cannot communicate." Very frustrating. Scanner works, so somehow the thing is communicating. Anyway, what else can I try???

And did you install the printer according to the directions in this thread?

Do you have a firewall turned on? If so turn it off and see if the problem continues.

What I'm trying to do with all the questions is gather information to see if there is a pattern and then I'm going to pass the information on so we can get this resolved.

I am having the same issue.  I have Vista 32-bit.  The USB cable is plugged into the back of my PC. I have a new desktop with Vista preloaded by Dell.

Can you both tell me what OS are you running XP or Vista? If Vista which version? Also, was you system upgraded to Vista or was it sent to you with Vista on it pre-installed?

Also, what system do you have the printer attached to? Is it a desktop? If a desktop which USB ports are you using, the ones in front or the ones in back? If in front try using the ones in the back.

You stated earlier that you have Vista. Did you upgrade to Vista? If so, did you remove the printer driver before the upgrade? If you did not, and you are having the communication error then follow the process found by Eric Rendel in this thread.

I removed the printer and the drivers and re-installed driver from the download center and I still receive a message indicating "the printer is not currently communicating".

Firewall is turned off.

I remove all the files from 32/86 folder (per Eric's email) and re-installed the printer.  All seems well now!  Thanks for your help.

I did exactly what eric said. uninstalled the printer, unplugged it, manually deleted the contents of the x32 folder, re-downloaded the 32-bit vista drivers and installed. still not communicating. i upgraded from XP Media Center in late january. help!

I have tried all of the steps listed - several times. When installing the driver, I get a message "wizard canceled by user" for both the scan and AIO922. My laptop is new with Vista Home Premium installed at the factory. What should I try now?

Happy to report my problem is solved

I followed advice in Eric's Thread My issue was I forgot to uninstall the shared printer on my system.
When I could not use Dell 922 on mine I tried sharing with my XP machine and on that basis i believe the XP Driver was starting up before new driver could action.

Bronze - try disabling your firewall (McAfee, etc.) before doing the installation.

not sure if it matters or not, but after i uninstall the printer, unplug the printer, remove the printer software and restart, i get the message upon restart: "Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed" i'm not sure if this is causing my problem or not. if so, i have no idea how to fix it.

Bronz, if you have front usb ports try plugging the printer into them. it works for mine. the rear it could not find the printer but in the front it works. trust ne dell has not a clue why this works but it does. i found out by just trying it when everything else failed.

:smileymad: I have a new computer, Dimension E521, came with Vista home basic, the ONLY problem I have had is the 922 AIO I have done EVERYTHING that has been mentioned on this board and links to others for the past 3 nights, and NOTHING is working, every time the "communication error" comes up, and the "wizard was shut down by user" this is driving me crazy, and I don't know what else to do, the thing scans like a dream, and that is it. anymore answers from anyone????
