946 all in one will not print or copy!

It shows to have plenty of ink.  I have used it successfully to scan but it only printed one time.  I did an uninstall of the disk and reinstalled, plus went and downloaded the drivers it needed plus the patch.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Rick I tried to do that and all that came out was a blank sheet of paper.

trisha506,

Can you lay a document under the glass and make a copy of it with the printer? Black and white and color?

trisha506,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any eerror messages that the printer is getting. Plug the printer back in. Now open the printer and remove the Black Dell Series 5 cartridge. Make sure all the tape is off the cartridge, then reseat the cartridge. Now do the same for the color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

trisha506,

You are using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Trisha,

Did the error message say which cartridge or just to remove the tape. If the cartridges are old, the nozzles may be clogged. Try these instructions Cleaning Dell ink cartridges. If that doesn't work, then I would suggest that you try new Dell Series 5 ink cartridges. The printer needs to be able to print by itself with no problems. So it's narrowed down to the ink cartridges.

Wow Rick thanks for hanging with me!  I did just what you said and really thought we had it fixed for a minute there!  But I got an error message that said "alignment problem, remove tape from cartridges or check troubleshooter report."  Now there is definitely no tape on the cartridges.  (I actually got the printer to print a page, but just once, and then that was it.  That was a long time ago.)  I had checked the troubleshooter page in the book that went with the printer and it said to do that realignment thing and to make sure that the printer was set to default.  It is.

I'm plumb out of ideas.

:(

But again, thank you so very much for trying to help me out here!
