962 AIO Scan: download application list hang
I have the 962 AIO installed in a small office environment with about 10 PCs, half Windows 2000, half Windows XP.
The 962 AIO is connected to my wireless network with a Wireless Print Server 3300 (also from Dell).
The two problems I have, independent of the computer's operating system:
1. The 962 hangs on "Downloading Application List" then goes back to the "Choose Host to Scan To" menu. This happens for some computers and not others.
2. If the 962 successfully downloads the application list, once the scan is complete, the host computer does not open the desired application and the scanned image is lost.
Some computers on the network work perfectly, which is the odd thing. Even stranger, all the computers worked with the scanner when I originally installed it and things appear to have degraded over time.
Note: I upgraded the 962's firmware to the latest version on 1/19/06.
Thanks for any tips!

After several days in chats, telephone conversations with technicians and receiving a second printer we were not able to make it work so I have abandoned the 3300 ($99 down the drain). I came here today, hoping to read some messages that would indicate that Dell may have resolved this issue. Instead, I see here that they are STILL marketing/selling this piece of junk and abandoning the customers.
If anyone has had been able to make this equipment work, I would appreciate access to the knowledge of how to do it, too. I'm very discouraged with Dell at this point.
Sincerely, Carthejt

The curious part is that the scan function worked flawlessly with all of my machines (XP and 2000) for several months before starting to behave oddly.

Upgrading the firmware on the 3300 helped on a couple machines, but not all. Only time will tell.

But there is an other problem, when the applications list is downloaded and I press the button to scan, the printer return to main menu.

For me, that problem went away when I upgraded the firmware on the printer itself (as opposed to the wireless print server).

It scans only if I select "e-mail". If I select another applications from applications list and I press the button to scan on my computer compare a windows who ask me to select the application.
Can anybody help me?
Best regards

I have had the same problems for nearly a year. I have downloaded and installed the "new" drivers and firmware. The problem comes and goes. I can scan to my PC (Adobe appl) one minute and then try later and it fails to find the application. The solutions you find here work temporarily and then fail. Some of the people using the same system must have gotten lucky, because the love their system and wear they have never had an issue with it.
I am on my 2nd printer also. It did not fix or change the problem.
I'd like a solution. I got sold the same bill of goods you did. I needed a wireless solution and Dell said they had it. If I can't get a solution, I want a refund!

I've never been able to get the FAX part to work. I've tried sending a fax to it, but it never picks up. I can hear the squeeling sounds, but that's all it does.
I've been very disappointed in the AIO printer. I won't be quite as unhappy if someone comes through with an answer to the scanning proglem.

Go to the printer's internal web server and delete all hosts from the list of known hosts. Then, reinstall the printer drivers on all the PCs that need to scan through the AIO. This worked for everyone... for about two weeks...
I suspect that doing this again would again fix the problem, but how annoying is that?

If you're not sure what this is, go to the AIO's properties (Printers and Faxes, right click on AIO printer, choose properties), and you should be able to find the IP address in there.
Sorry if I'm not more specific -- my AIO is actually at a client location and I don't have access to it right now.
