Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on). Please use a 6ft or smaller USB Cable.
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
Scanning
Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.
Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
Disconnected the printer and un-innstalled it and Omnipage softvare.
Innstalled Vista32-bit drivers. (have an Inspiron XPS M 1530) Was not promted to connect printer but did so now. Then innstalled Omnipage with printer connected.
Have recently innstalled Bios. Have not innstalled other drivers. Could not see which was related to this problem?
Sorry but I can still not scan. The messages are the same. No scanner connected.
When trying to scan without USB cable I am asked to connect it. Is it possible to use printer without USB cable?
You have to disconnect the printer, then un-install the printer. A restart is a MUST. Then check in the control panel, printers and make sure the printer is gone. Also you mentioned that you see the printer in the device manager, if my memory serves me correctly. Un-install it from there. Also go to USB Controllers and clik the + sign. Starting at the bottom, and working you way to the top, un-install everything in that section. Restart your computer and when the computer starts back up, the new hardware wizard will find all the USB Devices, again. Might take about 5 minutes. Afte it's done, then try installing the proper drivers for the 928 printer.
Uninnstalled the following: Printer, All In One center, AIO printer, Scansoft SE4. Then Restart.
The above picture after uninnstall and restart. There are two folders "Ukjent" = Unknown
Above. Inside these two Unknown folders. The processor and the AC equipment. Why is that? It came somtime, but dont know when.
Latest Java and all VWindows updates always updated.
Now innstalled:again: New Vista 32 drivers for AIO928, Promted to connect Printer. It worket printing and copying, but not scanning. Scanner not found.
Now innstalled Omnipage with printer connected. The set up program here dont find any printer. It promt me to downloade the latest list of printer, but that does not happen.
After innstall picture below. Two AIO 928 in Unknown folder.
Below "Bildeenheter" = Pictureunits
So where are we now. I have almost given up all hope to get this scanner working. Cold it have something to do wit these Unknown folders?
I noticed that you.re device manager is different from mine. I realize there is a language difference but some of your devices are not in the correct place, making me believe that something might have happened to your operating system. Did you, at any time re-install the operating system? Have you checked for malware. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, update it and do a quick scan and if it finds anything, remove selected. Try going to Drivers & Downloads, enter your service tag number, then download the Dell Notebook System Software(under system utilities), then the Intel Mobile Chipset and the Ricoh R5C833(both under applications). This should put these items back where everything belongs. After you download and install these items, then post back another image of the device manager.
My device manager looks like this.
Rick
To make the image visable, I have two more USB Root Hubs, not showing.
All is done in the order you recomended. Have never reinnstalled Vista but it has always been updated automatic.
Just a few not important malware was found with the recomended program. Otherwise I have Mac Affe innstalled.Never reports about blocking anything under update.
All system updates reported about sucessful innstall, but the device manager is as before. Still the two folders Ukjent /unknown, but the laptop is OK an have no problems exept this one. If the prosesor was unknown it would not function. Should I innstall the printer and OCR again.
