Nickmock,

Right click on the AIO 962 Printer icon adjacent to the clock on your taskbar.  Left click on "Change Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 Scan Button Applications".    When the "Edit Scanning Application List" window opens, what is your default scan application?  If none, then click the "Enhanced Search" button.  When the "Add new applications" Window appears, the new applications will be shown in the right hand pane.  Existing applications in the left hand pane.  You can add any of the new applications by highlighting it and then clicking the "<-- Add".  Note:  Add only those applications that are obviously applicable such as Microsoft Photo Editor, Jasc Paint Shop, Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader, etc.  My scan listed applications that I wouldn't even think are applicable, such as Winzip, HijackThis.  Click the "Done" button when you finish adding appropriate applications.  When the "Edit Scanning Application List" window reappears, highlight the program you wish to be your default scanning program, and click on the "Set as Default" button.  Click close.  Restart your computer, see if the scan buttons now work.

Note:  Pressing the scan button on the AIO 962 will not automatically open the scan program unless the "Dell Printer Solution Center - Dell Photo AIO Printer 962" is running, evidenced by the icon on the taskbar.

Hope this info helps.

Tony

I have no icon present.  I have looked all over for any thing resembling the actions you said, and have found nothing.  All the AIO software and the 962 Printer drivers are installed correctly.

Nickmock,

Ok. There's the rub.  Click Start|All Programs|Dell Printers|Dell Photo AIO Printer 962|All-In-One Center. When the All-In-One Center window opens, the printer icon; i.e., "Dell Printer Solution Center - Dell Photo AIO Printer 962" icon should appear on your taskbar.  Now, go to the printer.  Be sure the Mode is set to Scan.  Press either the Color or Black "Scan/Copy/Fax" button.  A window should pop up on the bottom right of your screen showing the scan progress to your default scanning application coming through the "Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 - USB port".

I suspect that the Dell USB port monitor is not loading at startup. The program name and location is:

C:\Program Files\Dell Photo AIO Printer 962\dlbxmon.exe

Normally, this program loads via the registry.  Click on Start|Run.  Type msconfig.  Press Enter.  Click on the Startup tab and see if dlbxmon.exe is listed.  If so, is it unchecked; i.e. disabled?

Simple solution would be to create a shortcut to the dlbxmon.exe program in the Start|All Programs|Startup folder.  That way it loads when Windows starts up.

If you have a personal firewall program installed; i.e., Norton or McAfee Internet Security, you might try turning off the firewall and doing a reinstall of the software from the Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 CD.

Also, I have seen AOL 9.0 SE prevent full installation of printer software.

Hope this information gets your scan button back.

The dlbxmon.exe was disabled.. even after i enabled it, restarted computer, it doesnt work.  there still is no Icon that appears even after i open the All in One Center.  i guess im out of luck is what it sounds like.. running out of solutions?

it would be a lot easier if Dell offered support without having to have all these service tags and service expirations just like anyone else who offers 24/7 tech support FREE via telephone instead of redirecting me to forums constantly.

beginning to get frustrated.

well just for future reference i have always found the online tech chat more helpful..sometimes a little less time consuming...that is if you're still under warranty- i am not!

No luck at all.  Sat on hold for close to an hour, over 45 minutes, waiting for a response on the Dell Support telephone line.  Waited for the gentleman to come back and tell me if he had found a resolution, when he came back, he had nothing I had not already tried or been told previously.

Nickmock & tharless62,

Just had a client's Dell AIO 922 that exhibited the same characteristics.  Went to www.download.com.  Downloaded/installed/updated and scanned with Spybot, AdAwareSE, AVG, Rogue Remover, and Windows Defender.  Removed all objects found.  Once the system was clean, I was able to reinstall the updated 922 software that I downloaded from Dell.  Print and Scan went back to working normally.

Hope this info helps.

Hey Tony! Thanks for that info....i did do a bunch of scans yesterday- Comcast has an EXCELLENT online help forums that top Dell by about 2000%! I did a Hijack this scan then a ComboFix scan but still had this problem....i wasn't able to get back to the boards last night to see any replies from those scans- however i knew something strange was going on when i wasn't receiving some emails...today my inbox was loaded with spam as well as those 2 missing emails that were sent to me on Monday! WEIRD...anywho i'm gonna TRY this again now...cross fingers!

probably not, Dell personel don't read their own forums. and aparently there isn't an All-In-One guru around.

so our best bet is the wait on hold for 2 hours for something it takes them 30 seconds to tell us over the telephone.

i think I am beginning to gain a hatred for Dell haha.  eMachines has better support.

by the way - i did go to the msconfig and YES dlbxmon is checked..altho that doesn't make sense to me since the error message specifically refers to that command being " terminated in an unusual way"...
I haven't done all those scans the previous poster stated..cuz i did do scans yesterday to no avail...do you think anyone here is ever gonna be able to help me?
