Can't print to network printer using new laptop

I recently purchased a Studio 17 laptop running vista.  I am having trouble printing off the computer that is on my home network.  I currently have the printer (HP all in one) connected to my desktop (running vista) via usb.  My other computer on my home network runs XP and has no problems printing using the printer that is connected to the vista desktop.  However, i can not print to it using my new laptop over the network.  The drivers are installed on the laptop as I installed the printer to the laptop using a hard connection.  But when i add the printer as a network printer and set it to the default, whatever i try to print locks up.
