OnAJourney,
Thanks for posting. Would it be possible to either post details of your problem or link to the other posts? I will try to help.

Bill, please help.

I bought a 3100cn and have a serious problem with it. When it prints, the ink fades from dark to light as you move across the page, left to right.

Per the printer, I replaced both the black toner and the image drum. Same problem still exists.

Ideas???

Thanks.

Bill,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried leveling the toner and drum. The problem persists. Any other ideas? Is there something that I might be able to clean or check?

Thanks,

Richard

Bill,

Again thanks for the help.

I worked through your last series of suggestions. The problem is not fixed yet.

The paper is compatible. The cleaning rod has been used several times and very little toner has appeared on the cleaning pad. There are no foreign objects in the paper path.

I reset the NVRAM.

I printed the Gradation test print. Cyan, magenta, and yellow all seemed to print fine. Black did not. The horizontal black lines start off fine. By the middle of the magenta, the edges become rough and by the middle of the yellow, the black begins to fade dramatically.

None of the vertical black boxes print anywhere near acceptably. They appear to resemble diluted watercolors, rather than black ink.

I can scan the test print and send it to you if you need it to help diagnose the problem.

Again, thanks for the help.

Richard

Base on the description.  very likely It is the black developer  choked. The unit is located next to the black toner on the rotary assembly.

CMY=> Print OK..Common path from laser beam to  drum are OK. There are 4 developer(print head or whatever) in this printer CMYK .

Sadly to say this part required unit tear down to do proper replacement.

What would cause this? Impurities in the toner, or...?
