Default password

Anybody know what I can do to login to this Dell 1710n monochrome laser printer? The manual doesn't have a default administrator name and password.

Hi djuplina,

It seems you are trying to access the printer over network. If that is the case, only the system Administrator of network can enter the User Name and Password.

Please reply if you have any further queries.

I am accessing the printer over the network. Unfortunately, the old administrator for the printer is long gone from the University, and I've been hired in to replace him. Resetting the printer to defaults was great to get it onto an IP address I could access, but the administrator password for the machine is a mystery. That's what I'm here for.

Hi djuplina,

As you mentioned, the person who has setup the printer and set the password is not available and you want to access the printer through network, for this the new administrator must restore the printer to “Default Settings” and then set it up over the network again. This process will remove any stored printer settings including settings related to ink levels (if any).

Yea, I've reset the machine. What is the default username/password? They're not in the manual.

Hi djuplina,

At what point after reset you are receiving the username and password prompt? What is the exact text you see on the display? Is it asking you to set up a new username and password?

As you'll note, there is no display.

The instruction manual says to reset the printer by opening the front door and holding the only 2 buttons there are on the device. After doing that, DHCP was back on and I was able to login to the ip address to try to administer the machine.

The actual problem isn't being addressed in this thread yet. I'm not having trouble resetting the machine, I'm not having trouble with a display that doesn't exist. What I'm trying to figure out, is when I try to go to configuration pages to set the IP address and change the language to english, I am prompted for a username and password. Reading through the manual simply says 'enter the administrator name and password', but the manual does not define what they are. All that I want to figure out is what the default username and password on this machine could be, because once I have the defaults I can set them to something appropriate for our office, and get the machine printing again. This is the only printer in an office that is approved for handling financial documents, so it is an important machine to get working again.

Does anybody know the default administrator username and default administrator password? That's all I'm trying to figure out. I can configure the rest of the printer from there.

Hi djuplina,

This Username and Password are not related to the Printer, these are specific to the router that you are trying to configure it with. As you mentioned the network administrator is no longer with the University you must contact the Network Service Provider to reset the router password or get a default password.

This has nothing to do with the router attached to the network, as I am just trying to enter the correct DNS information so that this printer joins its correct vLAN and will pick up the IP address I want it to. The network itself has been configured so that the IP is reserved for this machine, the problem is that the machine itself will not connect.

Actually, I believe I do need to have a login name and password. I want to set a static IP and maybe change from German to English.

1) Logging into the IP address of the printer

2) Browsing to the pritner's config page

3) click NETZWERK to enter TCP/IP information, authentication required page pops up.

4) Not having the printer's administrator name and password rejects my access.

Hi djuplina,

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request. I am sending you a private message as well. Respond to the message and provide the Printer’s Service Tag and Registered Owner’s Name so I may access your records and check for further course of action.

Hi theippenguin,

you can find a list of all the dell laser printer default usernames and passwords here: https://dell.to/2F08sYx

Hope that helps, let us know if you face further issue either here or via PM (envelope at the top right).

Thanks,

I had the same issue, and the link you provided was helpful. On my 1760nw, the default u/n was "admin" and the pwd was left blank. Thanks!
